Brandon Amon is a Senior Associate at Katz Chwat, PC practicing predominantly in the area of corporate law. He assists clients with corporate transactional matters, including mergers and acquisitions, entity formations, operating agreement preparation, general corporate counselling, as well as effecting business transition and succession plans. Additionally, he works with clients on business tax matters, their estate planning documents, the utilization of trusts for tax planning and the administration of estates.
Prior to joining Katz Chwat PC, Brandon began his legal career at Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP, an international law firm with over 1,000 attorneys located across 16 offices in the United States, Europe and Asia. At Arnold & Porter, Brandon’s practice focused on corporate, transactional and finance matters, including mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, corporate formation and governance and securities offerings. The large magnitude of the matters handled at Arnold & Porter exposed him to a wide array of issues and solutions in these areas of law.
In May of 2018, Brandon received his Juris Doctor, summa cum laude, from the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University. While in law school, He was a member of the Hofstra Law Review, where he served as a Senior Associate Editor. A Note authored by Brandon, “Invading the Driver’s Seat: Preventing Overbearing Targeted Advertising in Connected Vehicles,” was published in the Hofstra Law Review in February of 2018. Additionally, Brandon joined multiple pro bono legal clinics, each of which provided hands-on experience in working with clients. As a member of the Community and Economic Development Clinic, Brandon provided transactional and corporate governance assistance to nonprofits and community-based organizations in low-income communities in and around Nassau County. Additionally, as a member of the Federal Tax Clinic Practicum, Brandon represented taxpayers in disputes with the Internal Revenue Service concerning the determination, collection or refund of any tax, additions to tax, penalties and interest under the Internal Revenue Code. Brandon was also a member of the school’s business honors concentration. While in law school, Brandon worked with Neil Katz and Lara Chwat at Katz, Smith & Chwat PC as an intern.
Brandon received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting, with a minor in Legal Studies, from Hofstra University in 2015. He graduated magna cum laude and served as Vice President of the Hofstra University chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, an international honor society for financial information students and professionals.
