Emily Hurni is an Associate Attorney at Katz Chwat, PC, assisting clients in the resolution of Federal and State tax matters.

Prior to joining Katz Chwat, PC, Emily began her legal career at PwC US Tax LLP, one of the Big Four accounting firms, with 800 offices across 157 countries. While at PwC, Emily focused on State and Local tax matters, which included working on various audit teams, representing both individuals and corporations before New York State, New York City, and other state tax authorities. Emily also worked with state taxing authorities to resolve notices and outstanding collections issues on behalf of clients.

In May of 2022, Emily received her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from New York Law School. In law school, Emily was a member of the Dispute resolution team, a member of the Center for Business and Financial Law and participated in the Mediation Clinic. In the Mediation Clinic, she was involved in working towards the resolution of small court claims.

While in law school, Emily interned for several law firms, which furthered her interest in tax and business law. Her experiences included conducting research regarding tax laws, securities laws and business formation, She also was involved with the preparation of Operating Agreements, Pledge Agreements, Asset Purchase Agreements and other related transaction documents.

Emily received her undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Rutgers University, where she was part of the Tau Sigma Honor Society and the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
